The Dominican Republic held a Tourism Roadshow in San Juan, Puerto Rico with the participation of more than 130 tour operators and travel agents, highlighting the country’s unparalleled tourism offerings and its commitment to remain the favorite destination for Puerto Ricans, reaffirming its position as a true Caribbean paradise.
The Dominican Republic has registered a notable growth in the arrival of tourists from Puerto Rico. During 2023, 232,176 tourists residing in Puerto Rico were received with 3,226 commercial flights from that country. In the period from January to July 2024, 160,417 tourists have been received, which represents an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2023, when 141,932 Puerto Rican tourists were counted. These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of promotional strategies and the growing preference of Puerto Ricans for the Dominican Republic as their ideal vacation destination.
During the presentation, Minister David Collado stressed the importance of the connection between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, highlighting that “our country offers a diversity of experiences ranging from dream beaches to incomparable cultural and gastronomic adventures. The Dominican Republic is a destination that has it all, and we want Puerto Ricans to continue discovering every corner of our paradise.”
Puerto Rican travelers have ample air connectivity options that allow easy access to the country’s main tourist destinations such as Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Santiago and Puerto Plata. Airlines such as Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, American Airlines, Sky High, among others, offer daily flights, facilitating continuous transit between both islands. In addition, Ferries del Caribe provides an option for those who prefer the sea route.
In addition, during the Roadshow, the new destination campaign called “Taste the Paradise” was presented, as a celebration of the rich and varied Dominican culture, designed to capture the essence of what makes this country unique. From delicious gastronomy to mystical landscapes and iconic beaches, through contagious music and memorable shared experiences, the Dominican Republic presents itself as a destination that connects all the senses.
The stories of the campaign take place in three iconic settings: Punta Cana, Samaná and Puerto Plata. The campaign highlights emblematic places such as the Paseo de Doña Blanca, and Ojos Indígenas EcologicalReserve, Frontónbeach, etc. “Taste the Paradise” seeks to attract travelers from around the world to experience a combination of unforgettable moments with adventure partners.
